ElastOS in stages
ElastOS is one lasting system, built in stages. v1 proved it, v2 builds it for real, and v3 is where it’s headed. Each stage builds on the last; none replaces it.
v1: proved it
ElastOS v1, also called PC2 (Personal Cloud Compute), showed that people want a computer they own. It was a personal cloud built from decentralized tools: your own node, wallet sign-in, local AI and your own storage. It launched in early 2026 as the World Computer V1.
v1 was the proof of concept. Its docs stay here under ElastOS v1 (PC2).
v2: builds it for real
ElastOS v2 rebuilds the system from the ground up. It is the first time all four parts work together as one system:
- Home, your desktop for apps, files, people, wallet and AI;
- Runtime, the trusted core that checks every app’s permissions;
- Carrier, the peer-to-peer link between Homes;
- Blockchain, the trust layer for identity and signatures.
You install a signed Home and Runtime with one command. You sign in with a passkey. Updates arrive signed and are checked before they install. v2 is the base that ElastOS keeps growing on.

v3: where it is headed
v3 takes the isolation further. Every app and AI agent becomes a signed digital capsule that holds only the access you give it, on any computer you own. Other directions on the roadmap include reaching people by their identity, paid content that opens only for its buyer, and trusted hardware.
The roadmap lives in one place: elastos.org/about. It marks what is delivered and what is planned. The order of planned work can change, and no dates are promised.
How the stages fit together
| v1 (PC2) | v2 | v3 | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Role | Proved people want it | The base, built for real | Where it is headed |
| Sign-in | Wallet | Passkey, with a Recovery Kit | Builds on v2 |
| Apps | Web apps on your node | Signed apps, checked by the Runtime | Sealed capsules with only the access you give |
| Connections | Boson network and gateways | Carrier between Homes | People reached by identity |
| Install | v1 scripts | One signed install command | Builds on v2 |
v1 keeps working on its own. v2 is a new system, so you start fresh on it. See Coming from v1 (PC2).
