ElastOS 2.0.0

Released 2 November 2026. The first stable release of ElastOS v2.

New to ElastOS? Start with Install ElastOS. The full technical list is in the changelog.

New

  • Second passkey. Admins can add another passkey, such as a second device or a security key, in System > Accounts > Add passkey. When sign-in fails, the lock screen says why.
  • Touch layout. Screens 640 px wide or less get a Dock and one App at a time.
  • People has three pages: People, Profile and Public. Add someone by their DID, even if they are not in Public. A contact request waits 24 hours for the other Home to open.
  • Share with contacts. Library lets your contacts get a file of up to 8 MiB while your Home runs. Chat’s Attach posts a file’s link in Community.
  • Hosted models. On a Mac, admins can add a Venice or OpenRouter key in System > Models. Nothing is sent until you approve it in Inbox.

Changed

  • Your Home joins the shared Community. Inbox asks once whether members see when you are online. To stay out, run elastos setup --isolated before it first joins, or an admin leaves in System > Security.
  • After a network change, Home reconnects to Community by itself, usually within minutes.
  • Files no longer use the public IPFS network.
  • Web links in Chat, Documents and Assistant open only after you see the address and choose to open it.
  • Documents Autosave is off by default.
  • Releases are signed with a new key kept off the public server. From 0.7.1 or earlier, run the install command once. Your Home keeps its data.
  • The installer adds one line to your login profile, so elastos works after a restart.

Security

  • Web pages open in a separate sandbox, and Apps need permission to reach your private data.
  • Browser gets security fixes (Chromium 155).
  • Guests cannot see the security log or use the web Terminal, which is off by default.
  • Not done yet: Home can still use every App’s permissions, background services run with your account’s rights, and approvals do not have a screen only ElastOS controls. Importing a Recovery Kit does not yet ask for your passkey again. See Security and privacy.

Hidden in 2.0.0

Services (sharing AI models or Browser with contacts), WalletConnect, Approval Lens, Apps & Services in System, and the Archive tile.

Known issues

  • After elastos update or Undo in a terminal, Home stays stopped. Start it with elastos home --browser.
  • Posts between networks pass through the main Community node, which can read them until relay support arrives.
  • Direct messages need a direct connection, which some networks block. If a message stays on Sending, restart either Home.
  • Library can lose a save if the same file is saved from two places at once, or renamed, moved or deleted meanwhile.
  • Unsaved Documents edits are lost when sign-in ends after 12 hours without Home running.
  • Browser runs only on Apple silicon Macs and has no Chinese, Japanese or Korean fonts.
  • On a Jetson, getting Qwen takes about 43 minutes and its first reply about 22 seconds.
  • Models cannot read files, open websites or send messages. SmolLM2 135M sometimes says it did.
  • Copies of your files to your own other devices are not available yet.
