Updates and maintenanceUpdates

Updates

ElastOS updates are signed, checked and approved by you. Nothing is pushed to your Home. How it works

Update in System

Open System > About

Your Home checks for updates only while System is open. Home does not show an update badge yet.

Read what changes

Under Home update, System shows the current version, the new version, the publisher and the release notes.

Update and restart

Select Update and restart Home and confirm with your passkey. Home downloads only the parts that changed, checks each one, and restarts.

If the new release does not start, the previous release comes back by itself.

If an update needs the install command instead, System says so and keeps your current version. Run the command it shows.

Update from the terminal

elastos update --check
elastos update
⚠️

After elastos update (or Undo) in a terminal, Home stays stopped, even if it was running. Start it again with elastos home --browser. An update from System restarts Home by itself.

Undo an update

Undo goes back to the previous release. It is in the terminal only, and it needs the network.

Before you update, save the current head

elastos source show

Copy the full Head CID: value and keep it.

If you need to go back

elastos update --rollback-to <previous head CID>

Replace <previous head CID> with the value you saved.

Start Home

elastos home --browser

Undo keeps your identity, accounts and data, including data written after the update. A plain update to an older release is refused. Only Undo can go back.

Recover an interrupted update

If an update stops partway, Home stays closed until it is recovered. Keep the files in place and stay connected to the network.

  1. Run elastos home --browser. It finishes recovery of an update from System.
  2. If it says to run elastos update, the update was started in the terminal. Run elastos update, then elastos home --browser.
  3. If the same message comes back every time, do not delete or move any files. Ask for help in GitHub issues and include the output of elastos --version and the exact message.

Moving from an older version

Your versionWhat to do
0.7.1 or earlierRun the install command once. Releases now have a new signing key. Your Home keeps its data.
Test channelUpdate in System. Your Home stays on the test channel. To move to Stable, run the install command.
Older than 0.8.0-alpha.24Use the install command, not System, and do not use Undo. These versions cannot start with a Library file over 16 MB, or 64 MB in total.
