Get startedJetson and headless Linux

Jetson and headless Linux

You can run Home on a small Linux computer, such as an NVIDIA Jetson, and use it from your laptop. The board does not need a screen or a passkey of its own.

Install on the board

Connect to the board over SSH and run the same install command. The installer detects Linux ARM64 (or x86_64):

curl -fsSL https://elastos.elacitylabs.com/install.sh | bash

On a computer with no desktop, setup finishes and prints the SSH tunnel command for opening Home from another computer. Use your normal user account. The installer does not need administrator rights.

Open Home from your laptop

Open an SSH tunnel

On your Mac or Windows computer, open a terminal and keep this running:

ssh -L 8090:localhost:8090 user@board

Replace user@board with your user name and the board’s address.

Open Home

On the same computer, open http://localhost:8090/home/.

Create your passkey there

Create your passkey with Touch ID, Windows Hello, your phone or a security key. The passkey belongs to this Home at localhost, so always sign in through the same tunnel and address.

Use Home on the board’s own screen

To sign in with the board’s own browser, add a FIDO2 security key (USB) with a PIN or fingerprint:

  1. On your laptop, sign in through the tunnel.
  2. Open System > Accounts and select Add passkey (admins only). Confirm with your current passkey.
  3. Create the new passkey on the security key.
  4. Plug the key into the board. Open http://localhost:8090/home/ in the board’s browser and select Use passkey.

Use localhost there too. The key does not work at 127.0.0.1 or at the board’s network address.

What to expect on a Jetson

  • Browser is not available on Linux in 2.0.0. Setup prints “Browser is not available on this computer yet.”
  • Getting the Qwen model takes about 43 minutes, and its first reply about 22 seconds.
  • Updating in System from a test version older than 0.8.0-alpha.18 can fail on a slow device. Use the install command instead.

If an earlier test release set up Browser host access on this Linux computer, you can remove it with:

sudo /usr/bin/python3 -I /usr/local/lib/elastos/browser-vm-linux-network.py remove --user "$(id -un)"
